Process management of hazardous and non-hazardous solid waste in hospital environments

Abstract

Introduction: The increase in infectious hospital waste, since the arrival of COVID-19 in the country, led to the conducting of this study. Objectives: Theoretically describe the management by processes of hazardous and non-hazardous solid waste in the hospital environment. Methodology: bibliographic review, to expose through the tools of management by processes, complemented with the model of continuous improvement, the optimization of the management of hazardous and common waste, in health establishments. Results: The main result obtained showed that, through the application of the administrative tools, the efficiency of the tasks of classification, collection, storage, transport, and final disposal of hospital waste is strengthened, promoting a permanent improvement of the same. Conclusions: Process management contributed to the optimal management of hazardous and non-hazardous solid waste in the hospital environment, for the benefit of the community and preservation of natural resources.
